UT300R2U Modem Configuration – BSNL BroadBand Setup Guide

April 13th, 2010 2 comments

There may be many factors because of which the configuration of router gets corrupted and you need to manually re-configure the basic aspects of your modem.

The modem/ router we have is UT300R2U (Manufacturer: UTStarcom), so we will be giving details of it firmwire.

Now starting with the basics: It is not a good idea to just reset the modem (by presssing the pin-hole or resetting to factory defaults) and expecting that your modem will function properly, but surprisingly it messes up with the configuration……

Follow the steps to the simplest mode of configuration of your UT300R2U router : (The Bridge Mode)

1. Open your browser (Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox)  and type in the IP address of router. It is generally 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.2 (if connected via USB interface).

2. Enter the username and password. By default the username and password is:  admin

3.  Now you will be taken to the Device Info page.

UT300R2U

4. Now click on Advanced Setup Page and (1) Check all the profiles and (2) Click on Remove and (3) Click on Save/ Reboot Button…..Close the Window and wait for a minute.

5. Now again open browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1 and enter username/ password and go to device info page……Navigate again to to the Advanced Setup Page.

6. Click on Add button

7. Now let the VPI/ VCI values be 0 and 35 respectively. Check the check box for “Enable Quality of Service” and press next.

8. Select Connection Type as “Bridging” and let the Encapsulation Mode be “LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING” and click on next.

9. Check the box which says “Enable Bridge Service” and press next.

10. Then you will be taken to WAN Setup – Summary page and click on save…..again click on Save / Reboot button and close browser and wait for a minute for the router to reboot.

11. Then use your Windows dial-up networking to dial into your Broadband (PPPoE) connection with correct username and password.

Hint: Use the Google DNS servers for best ping time: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. READ MORE on How to Change your DNS on Tech-How.com Blog

Make the most of your Mobile Phone – Part I

May 7th, 2009 No comments

Almost everybody uses a mobile phone nowadays…..Even two mobiles at once…..But have you thought of the mobile phone as a tool beyond just voice calls……Let me show you more ways of making the most out of your mobile phone….

We all use our mobile phones for voice calls and maybe even one step further, i.e. GPRS, Internet Surfing via Mobile Phone….

How to use Internet in a better way on the mobile phone…..Here’s how…

Most mobile phones come with a pretty useless and a slow browser……So it is extremely important for you to download a third-party browser like Opera or SkyFire which are pretty good for surfin (A lot better than the browser which is preloaded on the phone)……

Opera Mini uses its own servers and compress all the data so that it does not consume much memory and because it uses Java, it is snappy to download and very easy to use….It comes for almost all the mobile phones which support GPRS / EDGE……..

SkyFire on the other hand uses a similar technique but it does not use Java as the platform to be run….It claims to open youtube videos within the browser which is currently not supported by Opera….

Teashark is another alternative which again uses Java and is nice and simple to use…..

UCWEB is another browser which does not use Java and is good but seems just Like another Pocket Internet Explorer, though the newer edition is better…….

How to “effectively” use your USB flash / thumb drive

May 4th, 2009 No comments

Many people (or rather everyone) has their own USB thumb / flash drive. We use its portability to transfer data from one PC to another……But have you ever imagined the use of the Flash drive other than only copying and carrying data around…….Let me guide you on how to use your flash drive other than only “copying”…

So……Ever imagined that your flash drive can contain an mini – Operating system…just like your PC…..

Yes…there are many small Linux and even a portable version of Windows XP is available to be installed onto a flash drive. But the Windows Operating System consumes a lot of space from the thumb drive which cannot be used for storing any other data……

There is also an alternative which is pretty light-weight and consumes lesser space and the best part is it uses resources of the Host (The PC to which you connect the flash drive)……It is known as MojoPac……It is a freely available package and I have provided the download link at the bottom at the page…..

So….is it only that you can install operating systems on your thumb drive and what about more???

You also have a lot of portable applications available to be installed on the Flash drive as well as Antivirus Softwares….which protect your data….as well as the small PC you carry around in your pocket….
