TV on windows mobile with SPB TV – its simply amazing

December 31st, 2010 No comments

Ever wondered to watch TV on your Windows Mobile 6 and 5 !

I saw a lot of apps provided by network operators targeted towards the Symbian OS and other Java phones….but there wasn’t any “true TV app” for the Windows Mobile 6.5.

Check out SPB TV….another great quality application which is also “free”.

SPB quotes it as follows:
” SPB TV is mobile TV, which has 150+ live streaming TV channels, Quick channel preview, Channels from 20+ countries and Video-on-Demand services as well as picture in picture mode for quick browsing. No subscription fee! ”

I tested the app yesterday evening and was delighted with the User Interface and the ease-of-use. The application is really easy to use and the quality of streaming channels is quite good.

It is recommended to have atleast a 3G or WiFi connection for good viewing of channels.

I tried it out on 3G connection (BSNL 3G) and the quality of channels was quite good. I loved watching NASA TV and some other music channels on SPB TV.

Overall, I recommend you all the download the application for your Windows Mobile phone.

My Rating: 9/10

Test if your DNS servers are fast or degrading the performance of your Internet Connection

June 8th, 2010 No comments

DNS servers are the one who connect your computer to the url which you type in to your browser. The DNS servers assigned by the ISP usually have faster response times, but may be slow in the lookup due to high load or due to bad performing servers….

This tool helps you to test which is the best DNS server for you….The tool is knows as DNSBench.

DNS Bench performs a test on predefined nameservers and of-course, you can supply the DNS servers of your choice to be tested.

DNS Bench comprehensively tests all the DNS server and generates a report which can be copied onto clipboard, which can be analyzed later.

We liked the way it tested the DNS servers for reliability and the response time of the servers.

All we can do is recommend this software to you…..DOWNLOAD it for FREE!

You can visit the Official Website >>CLICK HERE<<

In our case too the ISP’s nameservers were fast but were low on caching so we switched onto Google’s DNS Servers.

Primary DNS : 8.8.8.8

Alt. DNS          : 8.8.4.4

Have a Happy time surfing……

UT300R2U Modem Configuration – BSNL BroadBand Setup Guide

April 13th, 2010 2 comments

There may be many factors because of which the configuration of router gets corrupted and you need to manually re-configure the basic aspects of your modem.

The modem/ router we have is UT300R2U (Manufacturer: UTStarcom), so we will be giving details of it firmwire.

Now starting with the basics: It is not a good idea to just reset the modem (by presssing the pin-hole or resetting to factory defaults) and expecting that your modem will function properly, but surprisingly it messes up with the configuration……

Follow the steps to the simplest mode of configuration of your UT300R2U router : (The Bridge Mode)

1. Open your browser (Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox)  and type in the IP address of router. It is generally 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.2 (if connected via USB interface).

2. Enter the username and password. By default the username and password is:  admin

3.  Now you will be taken to the Device Info page.

UT300R2U

4. Now click on Advanced Setup Page and (1) Check all the profiles and (2) Click on Remove and (3) Click on Save/ Reboot Button…..Close the Window and wait for a minute.

5. Now again open browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1 and enter username/ password and go to device info page……Navigate again to to the Advanced Setup Page.

6. Click on Add button

7. Now let the VPI/ VCI values be 0 and 35 respectively. Check the check box for “Enable Quality of Service” and press next.

8. Select Connection Type as “Bridging” and let the Encapsulation Mode be “LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING” and click on next.

9. Check the box which says “Enable Bridge Service” and press next.

10. Then you will be taken to WAN Setup – Summary page and click on save…..again click on Save / Reboot button and close browser and wait for a minute for the router to reboot.

11. Then use your Windows dial-up networking to dial into your Broadband (PPPoE) connection with correct username and password.

Hint: Use the Google DNS servers for best ping time: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. READ MORE on How to Change your DNS on Tech-How.com Blog
