My experience with the new Microsoft Hotmail, SkyDrive and Office online

June 18th, 2011 No comments

Microsoft Hotmail has been around us for ages and there are many users.

I, for example have been a “Hotmail user” for over 8 years now. I have seen the Hotmail service go through a tough phase when I had a mailbox with only 10 MB space.

Then, the service was renamed to Live Mail and later the things have been improving.

Now, I will be telling you the change that I have loved the most with the new Microsoft Hotmail: its Microsoft SkyDrive

Microsoft SkyDrive enables the user to create Microsoft Office Documents online (or on the cloud….technically).

With SkyDrive, you can create, view, share and download the Microsoft Office Documents, right from your Hotmail Account.

I created a sample Microsoft Word document online and the online editor was just like the Desktop version of Microsoft 2007 editor. It was fairly easy to use and you can download the document you have created as well as you can share it with other users.

Below is the screen-shot of the Microsoft Office Online Document in action from my Hotmail Account:

Microsoft Office in Action via Hotmail :)

It was a really nice experience to use the Microsoft Office online…….It can be particularly useful when you come across a computer with no Microsoft Office Suite installed. You can use the online service for creating documents, presentations and spreadsheets.

That was my nice experience with Hotmail…..how was yours……tell me via comments…..and I read and reply every comment….

And please don’t even think that I have been paid to promote the service as I am an independent blogger and will say what is true.

Thanks for reading my article on my blog.

TV on windows mobile with SPB TV – its simply amazing

December 31st, 2010 No comments

Ever wondered to watch TV on your Windows Mobile 6 and 5 !

I saw a lot of apps provided by network operators targeted towards the Symbian OS and other Java phones….but there wasn’t any “true TV app” for the Windows Mobile 6.5.

Check out SPB TV….another great quality application which is also “free”.

SPB quotes it as follows:
” SPB TV is mobile TV, which has 150+ live streaming TV channels, Quick channel preview, Channels from 20+ countries and Video-on-Demand services as well as picture in picture mode for quick browsing. No subscription fee! ”

I tested the app yesterday evening and was delighted with the User Interface and the ease-of-use. The application is really easy to use and the quality of streaming channels is quite good.

It is recommended to have atleast a 3G or WiFi connection for good viewing of channels.

I tried it out on 3G connection (BSNL 3G) and the quality of channels was quite good. I loved watching NASA TV and some other music channels on SPB TV.

Overall, I recommend you all the download the application for your Windows Mobile phone.

My Rating: 9/10

how to use and know about torrents and tracker

December 16th, 2009 No comments

A short article on Torrents: Written By TuX (Site Admin)

We all have been witnessing the rise of the content distribution network – The Torrent.

It is a P2P sharing technology which enables users to share files with other users.

There are some things you need to know about before you can actually utilise the torrent network….

Seed is a user/computer which is allowing other users to download the file from it and it has finished downloading the file.

Peer is a user/computer which is downloading the file from other seeds/peers.

1. Torrent Files (.torrent extension)
2. Torrent Client (a program which can download files supporting the .torrent extension)
3. Torrent Tracker

Now we will explain you point by point so that you know about the background of the P2P network….

1. Torrent Files – The torrent files can be downloaded from many distribution sites such as bittorrent.com or ubuntu.org

(which provides ubuntu Operating System)

You can download .torrent files which are necessary to download the files. These files are small in size and some people

confuse them being actual files. So download .torrent files and keep it on your computer at a know location (e.g. Desktop)

2. Torrent Client – Many popular torrent clients are on the Internet.

The most popular are uTorrent and Azureus. uTorrent is a very lightweight client (download size is only 180KB) and uTorrent

offers good functionality and ease-of-use.

Azureus is for the power user and it offers a lot of tweaks and now comes with a new interface called Vuze which is like an

online media library which allows the users to watch or download videos and movies.

Both the torrent clients are free and the download links are provided at the end of article.

Many download managers and third party programs also have torrent file downloading capabilites but we recommend you to use

dedicated torrent downloader like the two listed above.

3. Torrent Tracker – This is the most confused concept amongst the torrent users who are currently using torrents.

A torrent tracker is a server which contains the addresses of the seeds/peers which are sharing a particular torrrent.

The tracker keeps a ‘track’ of the users which share the torrents. There are many torrent trackers on the internet. Some

trackers are provided by:

openbittorrent.com
publicbt.com

There are numerous other trackers and it is recommended to add more trackers so as to discover more peers as peers use many

different trackers.
