Bluetooth – How to use and most importantly, use safely…..

Bluetooth today is found on almost all mobile phones sold around the world (except the ones which do not have color screens and are really cheap). Bluetooth is used for file-sharing between mobile phones as well as with PC’s.

But bluetooth is vulnerable as well as you have to keep in mind that one incorrect step might get your mobile phone hacked…..

There are many programs available on the internet which can hack into your phone via bluetooth and then the hacker can make calls / spy, read all your messages and phonebook etc. So, security while using bluetooth is an very important aspect….

Mobile phones with bluetooth have a visibility option as well as you are able to restrict the incoming connections by checking the names of the devices.

The following steps are important to keep your phone secure:

1. Visibility must be off when you are not using your phone to receive any files…

2. Also check out the name of the device you are going to connect. There might be many devices active, and choosing the wrong device might put your security at risk…

3. *Always* use a Pass-Key……Using a pass key authenticates and verifies the connection on both the ends so that no other device can connect to your phone until the passkey is correct…

So,take care while using bluetooth and stay secure….

Happy sharing…..

Make your wireless network more secure….Learn How you can do it???

Using wi-fi at your place……Are you sure that it is secure too…..

Many people use wi-fi networks without the knowledge of the administrator..i.e. they use it illegally…..So there is an urgent need to secure your wi-fi network from unauthorized access…..I will guide you through some important techniques when used together will make your network highly secure…..

The first and the most important thing is the location of your wi-fi router…..Place it strategically so that its signal remains within your home only…..

Placing it at the center of the house is a very good idea so that the walls of your house will weaken the signal considerably that moves out of your house.

The next important thing is:

Securing your network with inbuilt security within windows…..Use either WPA or WEP Encryption….so that your data is not easily *VISIBLE* to people outside your network……By using the encryption technologies, you assign an access key to every user on the network, without which it is not possible to use the nnetwork…..
(Remember that WPA is better than WEP,but it is not compatible with all wireless devices…).

Another important feature is present on the hardware of the router itself that is disabled by default…..I am talking about the MAC Address filtering…(MAC – It is a unique address assigned to every network card). Here’s what you need to do….

Invoke your router configuration menu by typing in the address of your router….(Generally 192.168.0.1)…
Then find MAC Address filter and enable it, if disabled…..Also include all the MAC Addresses that are going to use the network……This filter helps prevent users other than the MAC Addresses you have mentioned in your filter….

These techniques altogether will make your wi-fi network secure and have peace of mind (regarding un-lawful usage of your network..)…..

Till then Happy Surfing….and Thanks for reading this article….
