Laptop battery issues ( Increase your laptop battery backup time )

April 25th, 2009 No comments

Do you notice that the battery of the laptop runs lesser than before……

Well this happens due to the Li-Ion battery chemistry and electronic circuitry which limits the amount of charging after a certain period of time….

Lets look in more detail……

The laptop has an advanced system to monitor the charging levels and to monitor that all the small cells inside the battery unit are functioning properly…

After many charging / discharging cycles, some cells start to die (they cannot be charged). But, sometimes (or rather mostly) the electronic circuit on the battery unit incorrectly marks some *good* cells as *bad* and this, eventually results in the decrease of capacity of tha battery and your laptops runs for lesser time on the battery.

Hence, you can get the cells to charge by Conditioning the battery once in atleast 30 charge / discharge cycles to keep the battery in good shape.

Conditioning your battery isĀ  so simple:

1. Charge your battery fully….

2. Then, go to Control Panel –> Power Options –> and disable all options which put the laptop into standby or hibernate. So that when the laptop battery is at critical level, the laptop won’t sleep….

3. Let the laptop battery run out of juice and then after sometime, the laptop will automatically turn off, when the battery is empty.

4. If the laptop battery gets hot, then let it cool for sometime.

5. Charge your laptop fully before using it.

6. You will atleast gain 5% more battery capacity… (I gained 15% on my Compaq Laptop).

You can check your battery capacity by Installing Everest Ultimate Edition (It displays information about your computer) and checking in Power Options within the program…
