Make the most of your Mobile Phone – Part I

May 7th, 2009 No comments

Almost everybody uses a mobile phone nowadays…..Even two mobiles at once…..But have you thought of the mobile phone as a tool beyond just voice calls……Let me show you more ways of making the most out of your mobile phone….

We all use our mobile phones for voice calls and maybe even one step further, i.e. GPRS, Internet Surfing via Mobile Phone….

How to use Internet in a better way on the mobile phone…..Here’s how…

Most mobile phones come with a pretty useless and a slow browser……So it is extremely important for you to download a third-party browser like Opera or SkyFire which are pretty good for surfin (A lot better than the browser which is preloaded on the phone)……

Opera Mini uses its own servers and compress all the data so that it does not consume much memory and because it uses Java, it is snappy to download and very easy to use….It comes for almost all the mobile phones which support GPRS / EDGE……..

SkyFire on the other hand uses a similar technique but it does not use Java as the platform to be run….It claims to open youtube videos within the browser which is currently not supported by Opera….

Teashark is another alternative which again uses Java and is nice and simple to use…..

UCWEB is another browser which does not use Java and is good but seems just Like another Pocket Internet Explorer, though the newer edition is better…….

3G Mobile phone technology explained

January 29th, 2009 Comments off

We are now going to tell you more about 3G technology…..Its still not available in India but it is going to come *soon*

3G is the 3rd Generation of GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) services.
The current generation of phones are mostly 2G (G is for generation, hence 2G is 2nd Generation). 2G allows for GPRS data transfer as well as voice. It is the most widely used radio technology for mobile communication.

While GPRS has data transfer speeds of max. 48kbps (using 10 data channels). Another Enhanced version of GPRS was also released and is known as EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) which is sometimes also referred to as 2.5G.

Hence 3G is the advanced version and it allows speeds up to 384kbps. Its fast speeds also allows for video call facility (which is only possible if both the phones are capable of video calling).

UMTS has two operating frequencies:
First is the 2100MHz which is the more popular and second is 1900MHz which is used in the U.S. and some other areas.

In India, many operators plan to launch 3G services on the UMTS technology like Airtel, Vodafone and BSNL.

The major problem for implementation of UMTS is its spectrum (Radio Frequency band) usage which is more than the existing technologies and so its licensing has taken time and involves a lot of money too.

Expect it to come to India by May this year and the others who are using it in the other countries….Enjoy using it !!!!!

ASUS P320 Windows Mobile PDA Phone (EDGE, GPS, Microsoft Office)

January 15th, 2009 Comments off

ASUS has introduced a new phone called the P320.

Features:

1. Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS (Latest)…

2. Slimmest GPS (Global Positioning System) Mobile phone available……

3. 2.6″ Touch Screen…

4. 200 hrs. standby / 4 hrs. Talk-Time

5. microSD memory card slot

6. 64 MB ROM / 32 MB Ram….

My review:

Phone is nice and easy to use due to the keys available on the phone along with the stylus. Has ample speed and includes apps. such as MS Office mobile and Handwriting recognition. Has average volume through inbuilt speakers but the included earphones are great.

You can use Google Maps and pinpoint your location by using the inbuilt Sirf Star III GPS receiver. Hence it is a great feature to find out where you are at the moment with the help of satellites.

At a price of around 12,000 (INR) the phone is truly attractive…….

Ask me more as I have bought one……….
