How to record cassette / tape music or FM radio into digital music

June 18th, 2009 No comments

You probably wanted your music in digital formats like the MP3, which a long time ago came in audio cassettes / tapes. You may have evn wanted to record something off the FM radio station which you had liked a lot….Here ends the quest. You can do it with your own computer only by using a single cable.

Yes, you have to plug one end of the cable (3.5 mm audio jack) into the audio player and the other into the Line-In jack at the back of the computer. By doing this, you can directly get the audio output onto the computer!!!

Now, for capturing the audio, you need a program which can do it. Nero has SoundTrax program in Nero 7 version. Or you can even use Audacity which is GPL (GNU Public License) which is actually an Open source software.

To record, you need to select the input as Line-In source in audacity and press the record button to record the audio.

You can plug in your audio cassette player, FM radio or just about anything and record it off….

You can get the 3.5mm audio cable (which has jacks on both the site) in all Radio Shack outlets as well as leading computer stores…

Now isn’t that really interesting….

keyboard cleaning tips for healthy life

June 13th, 2009 No comments

Keyboard not respnding to presses….Perhaps its too long and dust and dirt may have accumulated in due course of time. Also, some surveys have pointed that dirty keyboards often transmit a variety of diseases through our touches and hence it has been identified as a serious health risk….

So, we at tech-how.com, would like to guide you to stay happy and at the same time be technology-friendly…

So,  thinking about cleaning your keyboard. It seems to be a daunting task but its very easy……

First, you have to check if your keyboard is ‘washable’ or not. I am saying this because some keyboards are now marked as water proof by brands such as Microsoft, Logitech etc. If you have bought the keyboard in the last year or so, you might actually have one and this can make your task even more easier. Check out the keyboard packaging and the underside of the keyboard for such a message.

If you doo not have one even then you can proceed with the cleaning…

Tools needed…A screw-driver or someting which can go between the keys….

Now you would need to pop keys (one by one). To pop a key, put the screw-driver under the key (from the bottom) and then tilt the screw driver towards yourself and the key will be popped…..It is fairly easy job with the small keys and the bigger keys such as shift, enter and spacebar are more complicated and have levers under them….

All the small keys can be safely put in water alongwith a mild dtergent and should be dried completely before re-fixing.

Fixing is a fairly easily procedure…..You must know the layout of the keyboard though to fix the keys in correct positions…..Also the keys have notches which only fix in their correct positions.

To fix a key, hold it over the position and give it some push and the key snaps back into place…..Push all the keys into place nad you have a clean and a healthy keyboard…..

Stay healthy and stay fit…Also stay happy and visit our website for more updates…..

How to speed up surfing speeds on your connection by changing DNS

June 6th, 2009 No comments

About DNS :

It can happen that you have a good connection but the websites don’t open as quickly as you had expected. This can happen due to slow DNS ( Domain Name Service ) which has to “convert / translate” the names of the website to the numerical address of the server which is something like xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and connect to the server.

If the server responds with good speeds then probably you can get a lot faster browsing experience……I stress on “browsing” because download speeds are not affected by changing your DNS servers….

OpenDNS claims they have the fastest DNS servers (and free!!!) which are spread in many locations in the world to speed up your browsing. They also provide many other services like content filtering and ip / website banning. This can be helpful if you want to ban a specific category of sites like adult or nudity etc. The filter works great and the speeds are also good. You can even change the error message whenever  it notifies the users that the site is blog. You can even implement the filtering and use OpenDNS service for more than one IP’s.

If you are on dial-up or do not have a static IP, then you can download a small utility called OpenDNS Updater, which updates your current dynamic IP to the openDNS servers to effectively implement your filtering rules and for a better browsing experience.

So….if you need to change your DNS servers then foloow this simple procedure.

1. Go to Control Panel —> Network Connections.

2. Then select the connection which you use to connect to the internet and right click it and then click on Properties.

3. Then select the Networking tab…

4. Select Internet Protocol and Click on Properties.

5. Then Change the DNS servers. Primary DNS : 208.67.222.222
Secondary DNS : 208.67.220.220
dns2

6. Click on Ok and close all the tabs. The changes will not take place until you reconnect to the Internet.
