3G Mobile phone technology explained

January 29th, 2009 Comments off

We are now going to tell you more about 3G technology…..Its still not available in India but it is going to come *soon*

3G is the 3rd Generation of GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) services.
The current generation of phones are mostly 2G (G is for generation, hence 2G is 2nd Generation). 2G allows for GPRS data transfer as well as voice. It is the most widely used radio technology for mobile communication.

While GPRS has data transfer speeds of max. 48kbps (using 10 data channels). Another Enhanced version of GPRS was also released and is known as EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) which is sometimes also referred to as 2.5G.

Hence 3G is the advanced version and it allows speeds up to 384kbps. Its fast speeds also allows for video call facility (which is only possible if both the phones are capable of video calling).

UMTS has two operating frequencies:
First is the 2100MHz which is the more popular and second is 1900MHz which is used in the U.S. and some other areas.

In India, many operators plan to launch 3G services on the UMTS technology like Airtel, Vodafone and BSNL.

The major problem for implementation of UMTS is its spectrum (Radio Frequency band) usage which is more than the existing technologies and so its licensing has taken time and involves a lot of money too.

Expect it to come to India by May this year and the others who are using it in the other countries….Enjoy using it !!!!!

January 28th, 2009 No comments

Its very important for you to get whatever you want using search engines available on the internet.

The search engines now allow you to search a vast variety of Media like images, books, and audio and video.

So its the Keywords (the words entered by you for searching) that are very important which give you the results and the content that you need.

Let’s take an Example:
If you want to know about viruses – in computers then the most probable keyword that you may enter is **virus**.
But keep in fact that a *virus* is also in the world of computers as well as in Biology, so you will receive results of both computer and the biological virus.
Hence, it is very important to apply just a little thought befor entering the keywords for your search query so that you waste both your time and money.

Some search engines also allow you to narrow your search by offering you advanced options for searching…..But since many-a-times the average computer user doesn’t use it…..It can yield very good reults….

So for everyday use, just think a little at the back of your mind before enering you keywords for searching and explore the web in a better way….

Happy Searching….

Autorun Viruses / Trojan Horse Malware

January 24th, 2009 Comments off

Do you regularly plug-in your USB pen / thumb drive into your computer. Then you are at a greater risk of autorun viruses.

These viruses embed themselves to the system by modifying the autorun.inf entry files of all or some local drives / partitions and run whenever you double click or open your drives. It works in the background and many a times an anti-virus software doen not detect it but it keeps infecting all the removable devices that are connected to the infected computer. This in turn spreads the infection and keeps the virus chain alive.

If you try to delete the autorun.inf file from your drive then you cannot access the drive directly by double clicking. And the virus automatically creates a new autorun.inf file to keep itself *ALIVE*

Now some free tools available on the internet help your PC to be protected before it gets infected with such kind of viruses.

Below are the links for downloading the Autorun Virus Removal Software.

Spyware: Meaning and its effects

Most people know about viruses which can harm their computer and so they install an antivirus software and think

that their PC is now protected.

But, the story doesn’t end here, there is another breed of harmful programs which can actually “spy” on all your

activities like your internet surfing session, it can log your keystrokes and in the extreme case your system may

be vulnerable for a attack from hackers.

So, there is an Immediate need to Arm your Computer against these type of attacks by using an Antispyware Software.

There are many available on the Internet which claim to clean your computer but actually they are “Spyware”

disguised as an “AntiSpyWare” software.

If you use your computer for shopping on the Internet then you are at an greater risk as they can steal your credit

card information. It is done by logging whatever keys you type on your keyboard and then it is sent to a remote PC

which is controlled by a unknown person.

So why stay at risk, Get yourselves an Antispyware.

I have been using “SpyBot Search & Destroy”, a free software which is really effective and has a very large

database of spyware. It also has a resident scanner which scans all the incoming and outgoing packets when

connected to the internet and protects the registry and alerts you whenever an un-authorised change has been made

to your system.
